چکیده
Surface fouling by marine organisms such as barnacles has a major impact on the shipping sector. We use direct numerical simulations to investigate how fluid dynamical properties of surface change it is gradually covered barnacle colonies. The roughness effect peaks at intermediate coverage when approximately half barnacles. further perceived outer part flow using blanketing layer concept and find linear relationship between function effective slope layer.

Direct numerical simulations of capillary wave turbulence.
This work presents direct numerical simulations of capillary wave turbulence solving the full three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations of a two-phase flow. When the interface is locally forced at large scales, a statistical stationary state appears after few forcing periods. Smaller wave scales are generated by nonlinear interactions, and the wave height spectrum is found to obey a power law i...

متن کاملExperiments and direct numerical simulations of two-dimensional turbulence.
Experiments and direct numerical simulations reveal the coexistence of two cascades in two-dimensional grid turbulence. Several features of this flow such as the energy density and the scalar spectra are found to be consistent with well known theoretical predictions. The energy transfer function displays the expected up-scale energy transfers. The vorticity correlation function is logarithmic a...
متن کاملDirect numerical investigation of turbulence of capillary waves.
We consider the inertial range spectrum of capillary wave turbulence. Under the assumptions of weak turbulence, the theoretical surface elevation spectrum scales with wave number k as Iη∼k(α), where α=α0=-19/4, energy (density) flux P as P(1/2). The proportional factor C, known as the Kolmogorov constant, has a theoretical value of C=C0=9.85 (we show that this value holds only after a formulati...
